My Name (2021)

Englisch From this Korean series, I didn't expect anything special, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Korean creators went down the path of drama spiced with a proper action, which created an interesting atmosphere; at one moment I pondered about the search for the murderer and infiltration of the police department, only to have blades whizzing around my ears in swift Korean hands and I covered my face so that the blood wouldn't splatter on me, because when that happens, it's really hard to wash off. The story, truth be told, wasn't too complicated, nor was it completely original, but I didn't mind at all, because I had a lot of fun and only experienced slight disappointment in the finale. / Lesson: The truth is sometimes such a slippery little devil. ()

Episode 1 (2021) (E01)

Englisch I took another trip to the Korean Peninsula, and I surprisingly gave the pilot episode four stars. The show had a great pace and kept me entertained throughout. The main character was determined and resilient, but at times, she was surprisingly naive, which slightly detracted from her appeal. I hope the series continues in the same vein because what I've seen so far works for me. / Lesson learned: If a woman can casually fix her hair during intense physical exercise, don't underestimate her. ()

Episode 2 (2021) (E02)

Englisch Alright, so now I'm hooked on two shows where I'm apparently supposed to root for drug dealers and their associates. Honestly, I'm struggling with that a bit, so in a world where I have to choose between the mafia and crooked cops, I’m sticking to my neutral ground and enjoying the solid, action-packed spectacle the Korean creators have crafted. I'm having a good time so far, and the clear bonus for me is the lack of political correctness. There's no reason for me to rate it less than four stars. / Lesson learned: Porcelain urns have their advantages. ()

Episode 3 (2021) (E03)

Englisch Episode three felt different from the previous one —I  was even ready to write about the shift in atmosphere and the noticeable drop in action. What a fool I was! I totally underestimated the Koreans because after that wild ending, I had to check in the mirror to make sure I didn't have any blood splatters on my face. What I said about the change in atmosphere still stands, though. The police investigation, the action, and the various stakeouts (even if some were a bit naive) were just as entertaining as the previous gang training scenes. / Lesson learned: In crime? Always take out the scumbags; second chances are dangerous. ()

Episode 4 (2021) (E04)

Englisch The Korean creators have found their formula and seem to be sticking with it, and I’m all for it. Even though you can predict that each episode will follow the pattern of investigation (loaded with drama and tension) leading to a wild action-packed ending, it works for me. I’m thoroughly entertained. The only downside is those horribly executed bumper-to-bumper car chases. / Lesson learned: Even a Korean cop can chew gum like a Canadian coach. ()

Episode 5 (2021) (E05)

Englisch Despite a few illogical moments, this episode skillfully balanced moods, blending tension, drama, and the usual action-packed scenes. Even though I think the creators revealed a bit too much, I still had a great time. / Lesson learned: If you're playing a villain, be careful not to take it too far into Joker territory. 5*- ()

Episode 6 (2021) (E06)

Englisch This time, the Korean creators surprised me by ditching their usual formula and skipping the typical action-packed finale. Instead, this episode filled in more pieces of the puzzle and featured a lot of soul-searching. Surprisingly, the slower pace didn’t hurt the episode at all. I feel like the Koreans have wrapped me around their finger with this series, and I'm forgiving things here that I might criticize in other shows. / Lesson learned: When your inner struggles manifest outwardly, it can make for quite a peculiar sight. ()

Episode 7 (2021) (E07)

Englisch Well, it's official — the Korean crew has won me over. They kicked off with some action-packed demolition, ensuring that the high-energy scenes wouldn't disrupt the slower-paced drama that followed. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. / Lesson learned: Sometimes, you're just this close to that dream beach house. ()

Episode 8 (2021) (E08)

Englisch How much I liked the series throughout, I was a little disappointed by the finale. The story did reach the expected outcome, the Korean creators even managed to avoid the typical happy ending, which I consider a clear positive, but overall the big finale face to face (or with a pair of swords) didn't impress me too much, because I dislike the terminator-like resilience and the last scenes really didn't make sense to me anymore (did the police somehow disappear?). / Lesson: And then lend someone a car. 4* ()
