Die Besichtigung (E07)

Audiovisuelles genreliches Vergnügen. Wenn man weiss, was man vom Regisseur Mandy und Beyond the Black Rainbow erwarten kahh, bekommt man genau das sofort hier! Panos ist einfach der König und ich kann es kaum erwarten, was er als Nächstes angeht. Hervorragend besetzt, kameramäßig aufgenommen, musikalisch umgesetzt und insgesamt hypnotisch geführt - einfach die Essenz von dem, was ich mir als Highlight der gesamten Anthologie vorstellen würde. What an exclusive slice of madness. After Mandy and this story, Panos Cosmatos has convinced me that he's a madman — but a stylish one. His contribution to Cabinet of Curiosities is set in the dark 80s, featuring darkwave music, dark yet pastel-colored filters, and a psychedelic trip filled with grotesque elements straight out of a John Carpenter film. This is the first episode in the series where I genuinely didn't know how to rate it by the end. However, I can't deny that it captivated me. (24.11.2022)

An atmospheric treat, where the script this time plays second fiddle; just one room, an amazing ambient soundtrack, some magic with camera filters and the impressive directing skills of a hirsute Italian wizard. The work with optics, all the details and the taking of the actors, that's textbook filmmaking. Plain and simple, Panos Cosmatos is a master of his craft (Mandy, oh Mandy!) who has his own signature, his own distinctive creative identity and I'm eagerly awaiting Nekrokosm. Oh, and Peter Weller is utterly brilliant as the extravagant billionaire. (21.08.2023)
