Pigen med nålen

Ein sehr düsteres Drama, inspiriert von einer wahren Geschichte, über die man am besten im Voraus nichts lesen sollte. Denn auch wenn es der Protagonistin Karoline schlecht geht, kommen weitere unerwartete Schläge. Aus der wirkungsvollen Darbietung spürt man den Schmutz und die Verzweiflung der Zeit, an einigen Stellen begeistert der Film sogar mit expressiven Kompositionen, deren Bedeutung symbolisch von Karolines entstelltem Ehemann geprägt wird. Viele Details, über die wir nachdenken, wie und in welchem Unbehagen die Menschen vor ziemlich kurzer Zeit (vor hundert Jahren) gelebt haben. Vic Carmen Sonne in der Hauptrolle führt den Film mit brillanter stummer Leistung, die später auf kleinerem Raum genauso intensiv die Veteranin Trine Dyrholm (wortwörtlich) verdunkelt. Die schauspielerische Mimik spielt hier die Hauptrolle. Die Zuschauerinnen erleben die mütterlichen Momente in der Geschichte noch intensiver, im Saal war oft ein Zischen zu hören und das Verdecken der Augen zu sehen. [Cannes FF] (19.05.2024)

This story about the progressively escalating hardships of a poor, pregnant European girl shortly after the end of the First World War starts out as a working-class social drama and then gradually shifts into the darker realm of expressionistic horror, which is well suited to the beautiful black-and-white cinematography and work with lighting and contrast. Inspired by an actual event, the plot sometimes borders on exploitation with its naturalism, but the scenes with shocking points are fortunately filmed in a subtle and non-explicit way. The performance of the actress in the lead role is very evocative, the period atmosphere is appropriately bleak and the setting is grimy and fetid. Another major selling point is that it is never clear in advance where the narrative will go next, but it takes a truly remarkable turn on several occasions. (01.07.2024)
