(Sat.1 Gold)

Ein verwirrter Kopf (2009) (S04E02)

Englisch This episode didn’t really do it for me. The plot felt bland, and even Louisa's return didn’t add much. The issues with the school caretaker and Pauline's uncle seemed way over the top. This episode ranks among the weakest in the series for me. Hopefully, the next one will be better. ()

Sam, der Maler (2009) (S04E03)

Englisch Thankfully, this episode was much better than the last. The doctor had plenty of opportunities to showcase his charmingly gruff demeanor, and Louisa was less dull. Most importantly, the creators focused on characters with believable issues rather than over-the-top psychotics. ()

Peripheres Sehen (2009) (S04E04)

Englisch The doctor was in a wonderfully grumpy mood that lasted throughout. I was also pleasantly surprised by the comforting message that even with worsening eyesight, as long as you can see outlines, you're good to go. ()

Amöbiasis (2009) (S04E05)

Englisch Once again, the doctor had plenty of room to showcase his unique brand of empathy, which always makes me happy. As the episode progressed, I found myself thinking that a controlled cull of snobbish idiots should occasionally be allowed — or maybe just forced sterilization to protect the human gene pool. ()

Toxoplasmose (2009) (S04E06)

Englisch A pretty mediocre episode. I wavered between two and three stars. This episode's storyline didn't grab my interest and only served to irritate me. Anti-vaxxers and home births rile me up even more than they do Doc Martin. ()

Bitte nicht stören (2009) (S04E07)

Englisch This time, the creators of the series managed to lift my spirits. Doc Martin's preparations to leave for London finally stirred things up after a period of calm. While Louisa remained as dull as ever, Edith had a few surprises up her sleeve, and with Pauline's protests, they provided solid entertainment. ()

In letzter Sekunde (2009) (S04E08)

Englisch I was torn between giving this episode two or three stars. It felt overcrowded with events and could have benefited from scaling back a bit, which is ironic considering many episodes in the fourth season needed more substance. Nonetheless, Doc Martin delighted me with his trademark empathy and dry remarks. So, I’m settling on three stars. ()

Season 5 (2011) (S05)

Englisch Season 5 was very unbalanced. Bert and Penhale weren’t doing my nerves any favors. Luckily, things were partially saved by the character of Morwenna, the creators did a great job with her. The central couple was downright annoying at times, but then greatly entertained me at the end of the final episode, so yes, I'm still planning on watching Season 6. ()

Die neue Ärztin (2011) (S05E01)

Englisch The season didn't start off badly, but it didn't exactly blow me away either. I'll chalk up the first episode to the typical series opener and hope things pick up. Honestly, most of the situations annoyed me rather than entertained me. I'm starting to wonder if this little town will be enough for the fifth season — it's beginning to give me claustrophobia. ()

Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben (2011) (S05E02)

Englisch In the previous episode, all the nosy neighbors were driving me crazy, but this time I felt completely at ease and enjoyed the episode, despite a couple of brief interruptions from a thunderstorm. The doctor was back in top form, and despite the rather sad beginning, I had a pretty good time watching. ()

Mit dem Gewehr geboren (2011) (S05E03)

Englisch I was hoping for better after the last episode, but this third one brought me right back down to earth. The dynamic between the doctor and Louisa is just the same old routine, only now with the addition of that nameless creature. Aunt Ruth was seriously getting on my nerves, the subplot with the neighbors was pathetic, and now I’m questioning why I even gave it three stars. Maybe it was out of habit or just sheer pity. ()

Unter Verdacht (2011) (S05E04)

Englisch An improvement over the last episode, but not enough to earn a fourth star. It just doesn't have the same spark anymore. Plus, I'm getting annoyed with how the creators lazily throw in a new character for one-off episodes to fill the plot. Honestly, I think Doc Martin should have wrapped up gracefully in the previous season. ()

Erinnere dich an mich (2011) (S05E05)

Englisch I actually enjoyed parts of this episode. Louisa's annoying mother is still around, but the new character Maggie was surprisingly likable. I even laughed at Morwenna's needle phobia. So, I'll give it a solid 3 stars. ()

Geh bitte nicht (2011) (S05E06)

Englisch Well, the unbelievable happened — this episode gets four stars from me. There were several reasons: the subplot with the poisoned school caretaker made me laugh, the two hopeless characters finally broke up, and I managed to assemble a new lawnmower while watching. ()

Haie und Katzen (2011) (S05E07)

Englisch Hmm, it seems like the breakup of the oddest couple has actually done the season some good. Or maybe I'm just so pleased about it that I went for that fourth star. Usually, Bert's constant troubles annoy me, but this time, his run-in with the loan sharks was pretty entertaining. ()

Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind ... (2011) (S05E08)

Englisch Some characters (Penhale, Bert) are starting to get on my nerves, but the episode delivered some solid humor. The hunt for Mrs. Tishell was over-the-top but hilarious, and the final negotiation scene reminded me of the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. ()

Season 6 (2013) (S06)

Englisch Despite occasional disappointments, I'm giving Season 6 four stars. I have to highlight the character development of Aunt Ruth who became my favorite character over the course of the season. As expected, Martin and Louise's relationship followed a kind of sine wave. Bert gradually stopped annoying me. The same can’t be said about Joe Penhale, though. He got on my nerves pretty much throughout the whole season. Last but not least, I should mention Morwenna, who made it all the way up to the second place on my list of favorites. ()

In Krankheit und Gesundheit (2013) (S06E01)

Englisch So many obstacles popped up, not even Murphy's law could explain so many things going wrong. Morwenna was fantastic as always, despite her limited screen time, and Aunt Ruth unexpectedly stole the show. ()

Die Dinner-Gäste (2013) (S06E02)

Englisch After the first episode, the pace slowed down and the storyline returned to the familiar tracks of the previous season, with Penhale trying too hard to be funny, and Dr. Martin and Louisa starting to get on my nerves again. Morwenna, who always amuses me, still had too little screen time. ()

Die Zähmung des Wolfes (2013) (S06E03)

Englisch Surprisingly, Bert, who usually annoys me, was actually quite entertaining. I’m still getting used to the slimmer Martin, but he was perfect both in and out of the surgery. Aunt Ruth clearly outshines Aunt Joan, who was a bit too stereotypical. With Ruth, that’s definitely not a concern. ()
