Fabrikarbeiterin Hanna hat seit über vier Jahren keinen Urlaub mehr genommen. Die Gewerkschaft murrt, und so verordnet der Chef ihr einen Zwangsurlaub. Doch mit Ferien und Entspannung kann Hanna nichts anfangen. Also heuert sie auf einer Bohrinsel an, wo nach einem Unfall eine Krankenschwester für die Betreuung eines Verletzten benötigt wird. Ihr Patient Joseph hat nach einer Explosion schwere Verbrennungen erlitten und ist vorübergehend erblindet. Zunächst redet er wie ein Wasserfall, doch sie reagiert nicht auf seine plumpen Annäherungsversuche. Erst als Joseph mehr von sich selbst erzählt, entblößt auch Hanna ihr schmerzliches Geheimnis. The suffocating environment of loners and the strange is interrupted by a perfect scene with the blouse and all the developments that follow. It is impossible (for now) to judge the moments of absolute lack of interest contrasted with the complete captivation of the audience.

Full of typically European trademarks: spare minimalist direction, little music, basically pure conversation in the raw industrial setting of an oil rig. Full of vague ocean vistas and dense ideas, narratives, and attitudes. Sadly lacking the drive and with relatively little of the catharsis I would expect in a film of this calibre. Sarah Polley is fantastic.
