A rather loud, dialogue-heavy film where the theatrical roots are obvious from a mile away. The movie is divided into three parts, each telling a different story, all of which showcase Walter Matthau's fantastic, down-to-earth performances. He plays three different characters, each dealing with an uncomfortable situation. The first story is unenviable, the second is amusing, and the third is family-oriented and a bit frantic. All three stories revolve around family troubles, so be prepared for that. The second story was the best and most interesting, while the rest leaned heavily into the theatrical acting of the cast.

A typical product of the 1970s studio system - a conversation comedy about relationships with a recognized star in the lead role, which was supposed to guarantee commercial success. Walter Matthau is truly excellent and it is worth seeing the film simply because of his acting. Another plus is the quality of the dialogue and subtle ironic humor. Overall impression: 80%.
