Sindbad und das Auge des Tigers

Ja, ja, die Geschichte ist wieder nicht besonders gut und auf manche Schauspieler*innen (besonders die Stiefmutter Zenobia und ihr Söhnchen) hätte ich ruhig verzichten können. Dennoch ist Sindbad und das Auge des Tigers ein toller Film. Er ist voll von Tricks von Ray Harryhausen. Bei manchen von ihnen kommt man auch heute nicht aus dem Staunen heraus. Dem Film gelingt es, wahrscheinlich jeden in seine Kindheit zurückzuversetzen. Mir persönlich gefällt am meisten die verschneite und frostige Passage mit dem riesigen Walross und dann natürlich das Ende mit dem Säbelzahntiger. Der große "Affe" (er sieht wie der Kyklop aus dem ersten Sindbad-Film aus, nur dass er zwei Augen hat) sowie der Pavian-Prinz Kassim sind auch nicht schlecht. Ein Werk, das zwar ein bisschen veraltet, aber immer noch magisch und sehr angenehm ist. (02.07.2011)

Ich erinnere mich sehr gut daran, dass ich als Kind diesen Film über Sindbads Abenteuer sehr mochte. Im Nachhinein kann man feststellen, dass dieser Film im Vergleich zum Original Kampf der Titanen deutliche Reserven hat. Harryhausens Tricks mit den Monstern sind wie immer auf hohem Niveau, aber im Vergleich zu meiner Kindheit störten mich jetzt die Schauspieler und ihre Leistungen - die meisten von ihnen waren ziemlich nervig. Überrascht hat mich auch der eher streng gefilmte Schluss im Heiligtum mit der Rückkehr nach Charnak. Der Zahn der Zeit hat diesem Film viel genommen - die animierten Puppen sind immer noch atemberaubend, aber der Rest des Films bringt einen zum Schmunzeln. (08.01.2019)

Although I’m a great lover of Ray Harryhausen's work (here he produced the visual effects, co-wrote the script and produced the whole film), I have to admit that this is the film that has been ravaged the most by time compared to the rest (including Clash of the Titans). It’s not lacking atmosphere and the pleasantly old-fashioned story is engaging, but the effects (especially all the front/rear projections) are of questionable value. This does not apply to the stop-motion puppets, they are perfect, with the animated golden statue with the bull's head, the giant walrus and the duel between the prehistoric giant and the tiger standing out. Ray Harryhausen in top form. Here you can see how he was the perfect animator. The movements are incredibly graceful, but above all, the seamless integration of animated and live-action segments is incredible. What Ray accomplished without computers is something that even today, some digital scenes struggle to achieve. Yes, of course, it's evident that it's not perfect, but it comes as close to perfection as possible. A great performance by this man, who produced the film and also contributed to the screenplay. In terms of special effects, the film is more packed than others from the world of Sindbad, mainly because there are special effects in virtually every scene. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little, but not that much. It's a pity that the rear projection is of such poor quality. Here, its advantages are evident for black-and-white films, where it could be leveraged much more effectively. Beautiful women (including the stunning Jane Seymour), amazing monsters, lots of action, diverse locations, and B-movie charisma. I simply can't not like this. Moreover, one realizes what they already saw as a child. (22.01.2014)
