Ich muss zugeben, dass die Hysterie um Karel Zeman eine gute Sache ist, aber jetzt wäre es schön, Trnka wiederzusehen. Denn das letzte Mal habe ich den Film als Kind gesehen und erst jetzt wieder, und es ist wirklich kein Märchen. Das ist ein Mythos! (29.01.2013)

Trnka's films, especially the longer ones, have a strange poetry to them. They're mostly fairy tales, but there's something dark, something unpleasant under the surface. At the same time, it's dreamy and mysterious. Trnka was a master at this, just as he was a master of animation. Here, the animation of action scenes is incredibly pleasing, truly great and dynamic.
