Geography Club

Geography Club ist ein sympathisch gemachter Film, der dramatische und komödiantische Elemente sehr wirkungsvoll verbindet und eine Reihe aktueller Themen behandelt - von sexuellen Minderheiten über Mobbing bis hin zu zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen. Storytechnisch bietet der Film nichts Unbekanntes, aber er enthält einige denkwürdige Szenen, ob humorvoll (die Pflege der Puppe) oder ernsthaft (die Figur des Brian), die dem Film etwas von seiner trockenen Oberflächlichkeit nehmen, was auch durch das nicht völlig typische Ende gegeben war. A film about a group of people who don't have it easy in life. Because they are different. They differ at first glance, or perhaps at second glance. Either they're odd-looking at first glance, or they're cats, but they're gay. You can live with that, but even today's times are not very kind to them. Let alone at school. If this gets out, it's gonna be a big problem. That's why they are put together in a geographical ring, which is of course just a cover. The relationships are handled pretty standardly, but it's watchable if you don't have preconceived notions. It's just not great. But it is good. I'm sure the book is more interesting. (01.02.2014)
