Die ehrgeizige Immobilienmaklerin Leigh soll für ein Ehepaar ein Haus verkaufen. Doch irgendetwas scheint so ganz und gar nicht damit zu stimmen. Als sich Leigh das Haus anschaut trifft sie auf ein verstörtes Mädchen – die scheinbar seit langem vermisste Tochter ihrer Auftraggeber. Der Pakt ist zwar unübertroffen, aber trotzdem ist dieser Neuling eine anständig erschreckende Unterhaltung. McCarthy bestätigt hier, dass auch auf den ersten Blick gewöhnliche Themen in seinen Händen zu gelungenen Genres werden. Keine expliziten Aufnahmen, vielleicht nicht einmal Blut. Nur klassische Horrorübungen (längere Aufnahmen, ständige Spannung) in einigen Innenräumen, die bei einer Mitternachtsvorführung nicht nur angenehmes Schaudern hervorrufen, sondern auch in einigen Momenten schön erschrecken können. Außerdem war der Kleiderschrank schon lange nicht mehr so gruselig. Vielleicht nur in The Conjuring. Der Schluss ist jedoch ziemlich misslungen. (60%)

There are many things that can be praised in this film: technically and visually is an improvement over the previous and made-for-TV looking The Pact, the performances are solid and some scenes manage to generate a scary atmosphere. But the lack of one main character, stretching the plot to a relatively long time and not trying to be anything other than your typical scary genre flick are a series of tragic decisions that result in a film that works only very problematically, if at all, to the point that I fell asleep watching it the first time. On the other hand, the ending is WTF material, and not in a good sense.

While the film isn't the very attractive and adrenaline-fueled ride I like, I was still particularly intrigued by the film due to the very solid craftsmanship, perfect dark atmosphere, and solid story twists – the last time I saw such great disregard for the actors in was in Snowpiercer. Although not a single scare worked for me, I had a pretty good time. 65%

The intention of the creator can be understood. His main goal was to trace the entire cycle of how the devil comes to Earth. So, not just what can happen during pregnancy, but also how he is conceived, how he is born, and what comes next. But it's too fragmented, and overall, there's too little to really draw you in and be truly impressive. Some scenes feel like they're from a different movie, just an attempt to please horror fans.
