A scientific research team investigates and documents the supernatural phenomena surrounding the disappearance of eight year old Cody, who vanished in to thin air right before his parents eyes on their Utah ranch. When the group arrive almost a year later, the inexplainable incidents begin to escalate. Leider hat mich das absolut kaltgelassen. Die Laufzeit ist zwar sehr kurz (70 Minuten reine Zeit) und im Vergleich zu ähnlichen PA-Filmen passiert zumindest etwas, aber die Handlung ist (wieder einmal) überflüssig und all die Lichter auf den Feldern haben mich überhaupt nicht beeindruckt. Es ist jedoch gut zu wissen, dass auf den Farmen in Utah Spinnen leben, die größer als Hausratten sind. Ich werde Slasher bitten, mir einen einzufangen...

I expected that on the paranormal farm in Utah, the creators would gradually tighten the screws, but instead, they were tightening them on the viewer. Disappearances of people in spacetime, physical anomalies, Native American myths, mutations, telekinesis, and aliens with their favorite audiovisual effects all became prisoners of the conceptual dysfunction and the inability to bring any authenticity to the story, even in the characters' behavior. This is a fundamental problem with found footage. Where are the stigmata, Bigfoot, and Kodos with Kang?

The film stubbornly clings to its genre, never straying from its box. Despite the hints of a pseudo-documentary at the beginning, we end up watching silly scenes with individual characters who are presented to us as not very intelligent people. Occasionally the image drops out, and sometimes we can’t see exactly what’s happening. But the ending at least provides some shots that we don’t see in every found footage film. It’s not a miracle, but Skinwalker Ranch is decently average.
