Killer Legends

Many people believe the scariest urban legends are just modern-day folklore; campfire tales of axe-wielding boogeymen, haunted mental institutions and witches in the woods – the storylines of our favorite horror movies, but often beneath the surface of these harrowing myths lies a horrific truth that's scarier than any fiction. Through a chilling blend of investigative journalism, and what folklorists call Legendtripping, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills embark on a dark journey as they investigate four of our most terrifying urban legends and the real-life crimes that may have inspired them. Peeling back the layers of storytelling, from interviews with shocked detectives to traumatized victims, our filmmakers discover a truth more horrifying than they had ever imagined. Unraveling the mystery behind a legacy that refuses to die, this is an attempt to understand not just what we all fear, but more importantly... why we continue to believe. (Breaking Glass Pictures)

Englisch Very interesting and well-crafted document dealing with several infamous urban legends, which reveals the true events that these legends were inspired by or directly influenced. Through it, we will look at the dark side of a couple of well-known or less known murder cases and uncover their connection to the tales that have been passed down from generation to generation. The creators often went deep into the details and thoroughly dissected four urban legends that have terrified and fascinated many people for decades. The main message of the document is the fact that reality is actually much scarier than the spooky stories themselves, with which I completely agree. In many of these stories, the main character is some oddball or even a supernatural being, but in reality, things are much simpler, as in most cases it's a person known to the victim, or even a relative. What's even scarier to me is that out of nowhere, someone you've grown up with or greet every day in the hallway of your building can cold-bloodedly kill you, rather than some mysterious stranger. I've been fascinated by creepy stories and mysteries since I was a child, I'm also interested in various serial killers and their cases, I enjoy watching movies on this subject, and I must say that documentary footage of these acts is even more chilling than fictional films. Documentary presentation of this issue can have a stronger impact on me, and if done right, it can be much more terrifying in the end. A fictional film, even if based on real events, will always deviate more or less from reality in many aspects, while a documentary won't, and that's why it can have a stronger impact on me, considering the fact that it's a real event, as the key factor. While this documentary is not particularly harsh and uncompromising, like some others I've had the pleasure of seeing, it is very impressive in its presentation. The main characters don't just throw a bunch of information at us, but they nicely guide us through the places where the cases took place and reveal a ton of details. I didn't get bored for a minute, all the stories intrigued me and kept my attention tightly gripped throughout the runtime. I would like to see more documentaries like this one. ()
