Als er vom Tod seines einstigen Jugenfreundes erfährt, wird der Fotograf Bobby Garfiled David Morse wieder mit seiner eignen Vergangenheit konfrontiert. In Gedanken durchlebt er noch einmal den Sommer 1960, in dem er als Elfjähriger den ebenso geheimnisvollen wie fürsorglichen Ted Brautigan Anthony Hopkins kennenlernte.
