American Horror Story

I was generally satisfied, except for the somewhat lackluster finale and several plot digressions which barely had any impact on the story itself (vampire students). I appreciated how the filmmakers shrewdly avoided the hassle of creating scary monsters by casting Lady Gaga. She gave me the creeps every time she appeared on screen. I was amused by the recycling of Finn Wittrock, which was a great move. The star of this season for me was definitely Denis O'Hare, whose performance was excellent. (12.11.2017)

The first episode of the fifth season didn't convince me in any special way. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, it was just average for me, and unfortunately the creators also cast Lady Gaga, which didn't please me too much (a heavy euphemism). (10.11.2017)

This time it was much better, Devil's Night pleased me, I enjoyed being able to recognize individual guests before the host introduced them. I was also intrigued by the story of the hotel's laundry and the storyline with Alex and Holden. (11.11.2017)

The plot has noticeably come alive in the last two episodes, Liz Taylor's story was pretty good, I just don't understand the purpose of the storyline about spreading the vampire virus in the school. What should I expect now? Either the city will be taken over by vampires or, on the contrary, they will hunt them for the rest of the series, otherwise, I really don't know. (11.11.2017)

The plot of the sixth episode was quite fast-paced, even though it mainly focused on relationships and family. The solutions themselves were fortunately interesting, so I wasn't bored. The most interesting part was that the creators closed off their own school storyline, so I don't know if the virus has faded away or if the problem will resurface later. (11.11.2017)

In the ninth episode, the creators decided to return to important matters, such as long-delayed revenge. Paradoxically, they also return to less important matters, and so after three episodes, vampire students have returned, who I don't really enjoy, but I was curious why they appeared in the series at all. The penultimate episode perfected what the previous part began, everything was working fine overall, but the ending of the storyline with vampire schoolchildren was desperate. Not that I didn't expect something like this, but it disappointed me that the creators were delaying me with such a senseless dead end. (12.11.2017)

The final episode disappointed me. It was tired, uninteresting, and the Devil's Night recycling was uninspired. I definitely imagined the end of the season to be more inventive and lively (although there weren't many lively ones left). (12.11.2017)

I can't remember ever giving the episodes of a single season the whole spectrum of ratings. Season 6 of American Horror Story is unique in this regard. I was pleased and excited by the first episode, followed by a slight disappointment. Then, from the sixth episode on, it all went completely south. In the second half, the creators tried to compensate for the lack of atmosphere and tension with ever more frequent gore, which was totally unimaginative, as if following the recipe: "If you don’t have atmosphere, add two buckets of blood, one bucket of entrails, and the viewer will surely be delighted." Watching this pathetic effort was the actual horror, and the season had five episodes too many for my taste. I'm giving it two stars out of pity. (19.03.2018)

I have to admit, the start of the sixth season took me by surprise. "Hotel" didn't quite do it for me, but suddenly the creators came up with something entirely different. The documentary style is a fresh twist for the series, though it does reveal who survives right away, so more sensitive viewers don't have to stress over the fate of the main characters. The second episode followed the path set by the first, but the documentary segments, which initially felt refreshing, started to get on my nerves. Just as I'd get immersed in the intriguing storyline, the creators would abruptly pull me back to reality, and that really annoyed me. (17.03.2018)

I'm a bit confused. I didn’t get why the creators deviated from their initial direction, especially when it seemed to diminish the atmosphere. Just when I complained about the documentary segments in the last episode, they doubled down on them. Guess I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on. (17.03.2018)

Slightly better than the previous episode, largely thanks to the reduced documentary segments. I’d prefer if the witch drew her power solely from the Moon. It's not that I'm a puritan; I'd just appreciate it if the creators found other ways to scare me. (17.03.2018)

I could have definitely done without certain things. I quietly hoped the creators would skip the seemingly mandatory homosexual romance, and once again, there were too many documentary inserts. On the plus side, I appreciated the nice nod to Annie Wilkes. Despite Kathy Bates being part of the cast, it was Mama Polk who channeled her character successfully. (18.03.2018)

I don't get it. The constant documentary inserts in the earlier episodes were already annoying, but now the entire sixth episode is shot in that style. The plot is glaringly illogical and downright stupid, and it’s starting to feel like a complete disaster. (18.03.2018)

I gave this episode a star solely for Matty's death scene, which was the only moment that entertained me. Everything else was a mess. On top of the already shaky camera work, now every character has their own camera, so I imagine some viewers will need motion sickness pills to get through it. As for the story, there's no point in even trying to make sense of it. Logic was the first to die, completely off-screen. (18.03.2018)

I struggled to find a reason to give this episode even a single star. It was even worse than the last. The story was replaced by a nearly nonstop stream of violent scenes that failed to make any impact. They were too uninspired and, as someone who's handled more guts than the creators can probably imagine, they didn't impress me. Also, a note to the creators: if you're repeatedly slicing meat off someone's thigh, there should be less meat there, right? (18.03.2018)

Apologies, but I just couldn't hold back this time. This was hands down the worst episode of American Horror Story I've ever seen. Ironically, it was a true horror in its sheer stupidity and felt endless. I found myself wishing they'd just kill each other off as quickly as possible, but no, the creators had to throw in fresh meat to drag out the agony. This episode definitely wins the award for the most nauseating shaky cam shots. (19.03.2018)

The finale confirmed that my previous "Boo!" rating wasn't premature. I didn't even want to comment on the plot, but I can't help it. The "kidnapping" of Flora left me baffled. Were the creators implying that if a kidnapper hides with their victim, the police just pack up for a summer camp? All it was missing was a barbecue and a friendly game of football or baseball. I had quite a few reasons to be dissatisfied. I'm not a fan of Donald Trump, but it seems cheap to build a whole season around the fight against him and his followers. Especially considering the movement which started among his opponents, in which men were judged without trial. This so-called democracy is not really that far from inquisitorial practices. As usual, I was extremely irritated by Sarah Paulson. As usual, Evan Peters’ performance was great, and one star goes to this season's surprise - Billie Lourd. (14.11.2018)
