A transgender Chinese woman, working at a cabaret in Chengdu, receives an unexpected visit from her cousin, who tells her that her mother (from whom she had distanced herself some time ago) has died. Being the only “male” in the family, she’s morally obliged to return to her native village to organize the funeral, although she must now hide her new identity from family and neighbours.
