Wer eine Münze in den Trevi-Brunnen in Rom wirft, der wird nach Rom zurückkehren oder die wahre Liebe finden. Dieser Aberglaube verleitet die drei Freundinnen Maria, Anita und Frances dazu, je eine Münze hineinzuwerfen. Schon bald scheint der Zauber zu wirken: Maria lernt den charmanten italienischen Prinzen Dino de Cessi kennen, Anita verliebt sich in ihren Kollegen Giorgio und verstößt damit gegen die Regeln ihres Chefs, der keine Liebschaften unter den Angestellten duldet.
