Neapel Anfang der 1980er Jahre. Aldo (Luigi Lo Cascio) hat gerade seine Kinder Anna und Sandro ins Bett gebracht und ihnen eine Gutenachtgeschichte erzählt. Nun steht er in der Küche neben seiner Frau Vanda (Alba Rohrwacher) und gesteht ihr, dass er sie betrogen hat. Vanda verliert den Boden unter den Füssen und weiß nicht, wie sie reagieren soll. Was bedeutet das für sie und die Kinder? Dreißig Jahre später leben Vanda (Laura Morante) und Aldo (Silvio Orlando) immer noch zusammen, aber vielleicht haben sie und ihre Kinder, Anna (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) und Sandro (Adriano Giannini) dafür einen hohen Preis gezahlt. At first, the dad seemed like someone you'd want to punch, and I thought, "Oh great, is this going to be some feminist statement about how terrible men are?" But then the mom started acting out of line too, and I found myself wondering where it was all headed. About halfway through, I thought maybe it deserved three stars—after all, for a family drama, it wasn't as over-the-top and loud as you'd expect from an Italian film. But then things took a turn, and the emotions just stopped making sense.
