Die highligen drei Könige (2015)

Englisch Seth Rogen has done better stuff, but together with Falcon and Don Jon they make a likeable trio that will entertain you and put a smile on your face. The driving force is clearly Rogen, who creates some of the best situational humour in Hollywood, the scene in the church carries about as much weight in comedies as Kingsman's church scene does in the action genre. Michael Shannon as a stoned drug dealer was also very surprising. If you this trio, plus all the New York drugs used in one night, you will be satisfied. 80%

Frankenstein - Das Experiment (2015)

Englisch Bernard Rose, known for Candyman from the 90s, returns to the scene after a long hiatus and he certainly doesn't disgrace himself, his modern take on Frankenstein is surprisingly good. The film is decently made, intensely brutal in places, emotional, empathetic and although it moves at a slower pace, I was in constant suspense as the 20 year old with the decaying skin and mindset of a one year old wanders the world. Story 6/10, Atmosphere 6/10, Gore 7/10, Visuals 6/10, Action 4/10, Suspense 5/10,Humor 0/10. Entertainment 6/10. 65%.

The Forest - Verlass nie den Weg (2016)

Englisch The trailer was enticing, I barely finished the film. Almost nothing happens, the scares are absolutely dysfunctional with low audio. Add to that an unsympathetic main character, naive behaviour of everyone involved, mediocre direction and I come up a horror movie the kind we’ve seen a thousand times before (I'm surprised I managed to write it), where the only enticing thing is the Japanese forest, which is unused anyway. Weak, boring. 35%

Männer sind Schweine (2008)

Englisch A decent comedy with a good premise and nice actors. Dane Cook steals the show, the scenes at the wedding and on the date are great, but it was the eyebrows scene at the hairdresser's that caused the biggest laughing fit for me, I was rolling around on the floor. I would have shortened the running time and it would have been great. Better 3. 70%.

Cabin Fever - The New Outbreak (2016)

Englisch I no longer remember the original, so I won't compare here which is better and worse, let everyone judge for themselves. The downside is that the film moves quite slowly nothing significant happens for almost 50 minutes, not that I was bored, but filmed lacked the drive the trailer promised. Things looked much more promising with the arrival of the infection, but apart from the rotting and decomposing flesh, there is no much gore. The scene with the dog is underused and overall they could have done a lot more here, hence there’s no celebration. At least it is nicely shot, the music is nicely intense and there are two solid sex scenes, so it is undoubtedly better than average, but it had more more potential. The film is also overly naive and too forced towards the end, so anyone who is bothered by illogical behaviour and kitsch will probably complain. Considering that I've only liked Southbound this year, Cabin Fever is one of the better horror films so far. Story 4/10, Atmosphere 5/10, Gore 6/10, Visuals 7/10, Action 6/10, Suspense 5/10,Humor 5/10. Entertainment 6/10. 60%.

Deadpool (2016)

Englisch For me, a bit mixed feelings. In terms of humour and entertainment, Deadpool delivers exactly what it promised, but the action is unfortunately average and not much to look forward to. Not only is the lower budget quite evident in places, but the cinematography is so chaotic that newcomer Tim Miller could shake hands with Olivier Megaton. The fast editing simply spoils the impression and is so bad that one doesn't even notice the blood properly, which I consider a big drawback. The villain is mediocre, but that's classic Marvel stuff. I was also slightly annoyed by the frequent flashbacks. I liked the seductive Morena Baccarin and the many references to all sorts of movies whether it's the X-men franchise, or even Taken or Blade. The stylish opening credits and an unusual meet-and-greet scene are also a delight:) I don't know if I wasn't in the right frame of mind, but I didn't feel the right excitement and adrenaline rush that I usually experience with movies like this, but I'll give Deadpool another chance. It's worth going to the cinema, but if you've watched the trailer more than twice, you won't be surprised by too many things in the film. Something above 70%

Southbound - Highway to Hell (2015)

Englisch This Highway! This City! Those People! This Anthology!!! Is Fucked up!! A film that exceeded already high expectations must be rewarded accordingly. This is a fantastic ride through hell, with not a single weak element standing out. The first story is beyond average, boasting original portrayals of demons and one very decent gore scene, 3*+. The second short story features solid psychological terror with a clear “something is wrong here” mind-fuck atmosphere, 4*. The third story is the highlight of the anthology. It starts with the best car-human collision I've ever seen and ends with a nerve-wracking operation that had me screaming, sweating and curled up in bed like I haven't in a long time (at times I thought I couldn't take it) Excellent gore, 5*. The fourth story also features solid gore and idea but comes across as a slightly bland, 3*+. The final story climaxes with an intense home invasion that tells to other home invasion movies that if you want to, you still can. Excellent bad guy, intense suspense, psychological terror, decent climax and a nice twist 4*+. Amazingly shot, with convincing performances and clever writing, old-school atmosphere, perfect gore, amazing sound (every movement is authentic to the point of being palpable) and most importantly the film manages to perfectly sway the viewer's mind. Two reasons to see the film: the best and most stylish soundtrack in horror in the last decade and the best anthology in the last decade. A future classic that I will keep coming back to. 85%.

Urlaubsreif (2014)

Englisch A decent movie enriched by the African setting. Quite a few jokes from Adam Sandler, the only funny one here is Terry Crews with his dance group. It's entertaining, there are likeable actors, but unless I laugh at least every 10 minutes at a comedy, I can't go for 4*. 65%.

Michiel de Ruyter (2015)

Englisch I'm not a big fan of naval battles, but this one just has balls and after watching the enticing trailer, it only confirmed everything for me... a 130 minute Dutch story of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter that draws the viewer in from start to finish. It offers engaging sets, spectacular battles, decent acting, strategy, diplomacy and a box of politics where it is easy to get lost and confused, so full attention is required. A solid film in every respect. The only downside perhaps is the running time. 80%.
