Láďa, Honzík and Karel wander around their city and are a bit bored. But then they meet an elderly man who offers them an adventure: to fly to the past in a rocket. The boys eagerly accept and board the time machine along with little Zuzanka. They at once appear in Prague in 1900. Setting off through the city, they see something unusual and interesting on every step. An organ grinder with his leg shot off walks down the street. A wagon drawn by horses drives along and people dump ash from boxes in it. There is a queue standing in front of a well, made of women and children who have to bring water home since the water-supply system is not fully installed yet. With a girl whom Láďa helps to carry a load of water, the kids enter the flat of a poor laundress. She offers them dinner but the children of the 20th century do not enjoy the miserable food at all. They learn about the contemporary life situation of the shoemakers' apprentices and pupils at school. On the street, Karel meets his grandfather as a young boy and they are almost mistaken for each other. The children also see an ancient automobile, talk to a photographer and attend a cinema performance. But by that time, they have begun to miss their own time and eagerly return to it.
