Englisch After watching the promising trailer, I was looking forward to Luz and had high hopes for it. I expected it to be an intense horror hell in the style of atmospheric 70s and 80s horror films. In the end, this turned out to be a grossly mistaken judgment. The trailer included almost all horror-looking scenes that the movie contains, so you won't see anything extra - except for babbling. Essentially, it's a stylishly shot conversational horror about possession, where you'll hardly understand what's going on. A significant part of the film takes place in one room during a bizarre reconstruction of a certain event using hypnosis, and everything unfolds from there. The beginning looked promising, the film tried to build some tension and I was expecting for a while that it was going somewhere and that it would soon take off. However, nothing happened, all my hopes quickly faded, and cruel boredom took over. At some point, I gave up on it all and just wished it would end. Apart from the excellent retro stylization, I don't think the film offers anything that could significantly interest genre fans - in fact, I have no idea what kind of audience this will appeal to. However, one trick was successful for Tilman Singer - he managed to create a convincing time illusion in which 70 minutes feel like 2 long and grueling hours. ()

Englisch The German movie Luz is an example of an art-horror movie. Sure, it has a certain atmosphere, although that is not because of the horror element but rather how strangely the movie was shot. I can imagine this being shown in art house cinemas to a cult audience. As a horror fan, though, I did not find it particularly exciting and it was just a sort of experimental movie. ()
